Photos Social Networking...

I hate it when i'm out with my friends, and they're allover posing for photographs to put on social networking sites like facebook.
Not once have i uploaded anything onto facebook, but it seeems after everytime im out, im in some1 elses photographs, that i'm then tagged in.
Everytime they all pose for a photograph, i get annoyed and instead of doing a stupid pout like they want me to do, i pull a funny face, as i know whats not what they're after.
This has lead me to believe thats why people like social netwroking sites, they can be who they want to appear to be to the rest of the world, i myself do not want to appear as a conformist geek who poses for every camera put infront of him, i'd rathersome of my true fun personality show within the photos, some of my friends howvere are always posing and perfecting the right pose for each shot, amking them appear to be "perfect" when everyone really knows they're not, but there is always that chance i suppose...

Myspace...

Myspace is a networking system that i have been on for years, i rarely have used it from the day i go it, howvere i have used it a lot more than facebook. However after looking at it, i realise that the person i am portraying in it is not myself, however an old version of me. The photos a total distinct different to how i look now, the words i was using to describe myself also, so therefore peope viewing my profile think im still this way, when i am not...

twitter...

A simple question? Or a way of life? Many people are fast becoming obsessed with twitter, and all it seems to be is telling people what you are doing, i simply didnt understand the concept when i signed up earlier, however i do now, and can see why it can be addictive, from this video...

Habbo Hotel...

I found out about this website from my sister, who goes on it regularly, it was an interesting concept to me, people get to make an interactive, cartoon style person, and then make your way around the "hotel" rooms which you can yourself create and personalise with furniture, and weird little objects like pets.

The site is primarily aimed at younger crowds, 12 - 18, however whilst on there i did find some ppl claiming to be over 30.

One thing i did find a little strange was the amount of people pretending to be babies. It seems that by some rules, people on this, pretend to get married, make a home in thier rooms, adopt other habbo's to pretend to be thier children, and then get things like pets.

This is not the case for all, some people do just go into the hotel and treat it like a chat room, however some taking it more seriously than others, joining a thing called the habbo club, wherein u get to be part of a private members club, at the cost of 2.50 a month, this seemed weird to me, as i think people are definatly not thinking about the fact that basically, they are just being charged to have their own graphics in a chat room, and people definatly not just see it that way...

Social Networking...

When looking at photography by other people, a friend told me to look at some of his work on facebook profile, whilst doing this i got distracted not by the photography, but by the social networking system itself...
Social networking is always something i've had put upon me, rather than wanted to do. I started off with a faceparty at 15/16 because my girlfriend at the time was addicted and wanted me to have it too.
In first year college everyone was talking about myspace, this amazing new social networking site it seemed everyone was on except me, so a friend made me an account, to which has hardly changed much since the day he did.
Then most recently facebook, the thing i held off getting for a long long time, until a week before moving to Leeds, when my friend finally cracked me, and told me everyone at uni had it, and that it was the best way to arrange parties and see what was going on in freshers, so obviously i caved in, hating it from the start, and even now not being too taken with it.
Howvere for some people, this simple social networking site can be addictive, and i've saw people everytime they log onto a computer, log onto facebook, and i just don't get it, and that is why i want to look further into social networking as a technology...

Jimi's Room...

Jimi's room had the most technology within it, ranging from a few guitars, a tv, digital tv box, many dvd's and cd's...

Adam's Room...

Adams room has a little more electrical technologies, dvd's, mini fridge, electric shaver etc...

Ramandeep's Room...

Ramandeep didn't really like technologies, like myself, and she doesn't live with many around her. She said that the only things she really uses electronically, laptop, phone, clock, hairdryer and lamp...

Technologies of Others...

I decided to look at technologies other people use within their lives. And so going close to home as ever, I asked my flatmates if i could have a look around their rooms...

Bradford

The Bradford trip was today and i actually can't believe how much i enjoyed it.
I'd heard lots of things about Bradford, the only good thing being that you could get a good curry there. I'm a very accepting person, and i love new cultures and differences to what i am used to, however i had just never liked the sound of Bradford.
When we got there on the bus, it looked a little as i expected, a little run down and boring. And i did enjoy my time within the museum (images next post), however it was outside of the museum i found extremely intriguing...
I walked around in a group for a little while, however from what i was seeing, i decided to go for a walk off on my own. The city seemed to have thriving student area, similar to that of Leeds Uni, which i did enjoy the buzz off for a little while, however it was when i walked into town and saw all the signs of rejuvination that particularly grabbed my attention.
The market, the people, the sense of buzz in the air, but in a run down, rejuvinating place was kind of unreal to me, i loved walking around the city, and at one point i saw a high hill on the other side of the new development, which just looked like the perfect place to go and take a photograph of this fantastic place.
I really loved the way that the city thrives on being so multicultural, with the posters for regen, containing only people which appear to be of asian decent, whcih i have never seen anywhere else.
I have never seen another city like bradford, and will definatly be going back in the future...

Photography

I've decided that one technology that i would like to explore further is photography, which is helpful as we are visting the bradford media museum next week, so that should be good help.

I've started to look at and record in my sketchbook the different types of photography processes and experimenting with my new slr, trying all the different features and lenses on it.

Thermal Paper

In the previous videos, myself and Hannah became intrigued with thermal paper, we both left last night and went on hunts in different directions for it, i went into town and she went to a retail park, both of us desperatly trying to find some and experiment with the mark making on it.
Unluckily, until today i couldnt manage to get any for myself, so hannah experimented with it last night and got some interesting mark making.
We used this in our presentation and got a volunteer to make some marks of thier own with a glue gun and hair dryer...

Fax Machines

Yesterday we where given a brief to make a presentation about a technology, we where asked to do this in pairs and myself and Hannah decided to work together, and after much deliberation, we choose to investigate something which was around us, however we did not know much about, and this was therefore Fax Machines.

We started out looking at the history and creation of the technology, and then looked at some of the problems with it.
One interesting fact we found was that a thing called a "Black Fax" is something that was and still is sent to coorperations with black pieces of paper sent through on a loop, continually faxed to a corporations machines, this causes the recieving fax machine to go into overdrive, which can lead to the fax machine and network to fail completely.

One video which we found, and found extremely helpful, was The secret life of machines - fax machines, which was presented by Tim Hunkin, which taught us some great ideas that we put into our presentation...

Finally...

Ever since i got my SLR, i have yet to plug it into the computer and upload images, as i thought i'd left the software disk at home. Well turns out there was no disk, so i finally uploaded them. (Another example of my cba attitude to technology).
So anyway, i thought i would put a few of the photographs on here, as they represent me playing around with the new technology which of course was my camera, and also represent a past history of my technology uses in the few months before the briefing...

I decided to look at all the things in my room, and look at what technologies i had at hand...

CommTech

Today i finally looked at some technologies which occur within my daily live, and i decided that would keep a diary of what technologies I use each day during the rest of the brief, just to get a eneral idea of what it is i use, and if i'm really as energy effiecient as i think i am...

So far i've come up with that generally, although i do not like technology (this blog is going to be such a chore to me) i do, without doubt, love my ipod, my ipod dock, and my mobile.

Other technologies i use regularly and am happy to use are the likes of my Slr, and the wonderment that is youtube!
However i do think that my use of technology has slackened somehwat over the past few years. I'm not online as much as i used to be, or actually using the same things as i did back then. Even social networking has changed for me, as i remember my first social networking sight being faceparty. When i tried to get back onto this, i was approached by a big lecture from the sight managers, claiming that they want to keep their sight the best, and therefore no newcomers unless you know someone who already has one, which i found, i must say, quite strange...

Communication Technology

For this Communication Technology brief, i want to explore a variety of different technologies, maybe concentrating on photography and video.
I have a new recently established interest in photography and want to take this further and try and explore new ideas within this.
I also want to explore the depth of videos and the softwareused within the creation of them.
I do want though also to explore other technologies, as i feel that the photography and video could be done within another project, but this one is open interpretation, and is therefore gives me more freedom to explore things which i would normally not, therefore a lot of experimentation would be a good aspect of this brief...
